Early fall
So its October and fall is truly upon us. Weather has FINALLY taken a turn for the cooler tho not enuf to kill the endless little gnats and skeeters that i have to continually bat while trying to take in a sunset. No shortage of spiders this past month and no sign of them lightening up either. Webs everywhere which has to be my least favorite part of autumn. If they'd eat the biters out there I'd be much happier but it seems that the gel decorations on my windows are more interested in catching the little gomers than the spiders who want much bigger game. Right now I need to work out a game plan for all the herbs I want to bring in for the winter and also some of the houseplants that have been enjoying the outdoor life this past summer. Some are a bit big so that ought to add to the fun too but sure I'll find a spot for each and every one even if I have to crowd out the damn people around here :+P. Feeling the pull to just go inside myself and try to get a grip on this strange place called life. Good luck to me eh?

So Im weaning myself off that dark black hole otherwise known as Facebook and maybe I'll even get around to posting here more often. Nice I don't have to try and impress anyone here.. So... its near the end of the month and we actually have had a small stretch of almost fall weather. Didn't last long and didn't kill off the plague of mosquitoes that are eating us alive. This morning was funny cos I was awake early for a bit and damn if I didn't happen to look out the side door to see a whole family of turkeys walking right by the steps... Im talking only a few feet from the door. Then I see Trouble creeping up behind them like he's gonna attack :+) Too bad for him Mama turkey was onto his tricks and wasn't letting him near her kids. Otherwise its spider city around here which I try to be tolerant of but over the weekend I found one the Charlottes spinning a web in the doorway to the den {{{{ shudder}}}}... I was nice tho and just transplanted her to the outdoor instead of squishing her.
On a different note I started my CNA classes this week so moving forward to get a career. In the meantime I may have to find a diff part time job to pay bills but nice to have some hope for the future job wise. In keeping with the nature theme of this blog i had to add that just as I was leaving class tonight I had a skunk run out in front of the car. Luckily I was able to avoid hitting it so Im hoping that it means the opposite of black cats luck wise. Then in thinking it over I decided just not killing an animal, albeit in that could stink up my car for weeks is pretty damn good luck for me :+)

Weather woes... Big club I know
Into the month of September now with fall, thank the good Lord, just around the corner. August was not the best of months weather wise... continuing on from July it was still stormy and soggy to record level. Had an earthquake and hurricane ( with tornadoes and major flooding) the last week of August. Joe n I went away to Indiana and Wisconsin for 6 days the week after it all and wouldn't you know there wasn't a drop of rain here while we were gone and half my plants are dead. Also warm and muggy as opposed to Wisconsin's 46 degree the day we left to come home... But in contrary nature of my life we ran into the latest tropical storm in PA on our 15 hr trip home which made the last few hours of that trip tortuous. And it hasn't stopped raining for long since we came back 3 days ago. Half of my plants are still piled up on the ground where they were put in prep for the hurricane since we left 3 days after it passed. If it ever starts to dry out maybe I can salvage whats left of them. Just can't believe that Texas has had NO rain and we just keep getting slammed... Old Mother Nature has turned very bitchy in her old age. Here's hoping that fall will make up for this crappy summer and not have some dramatic weather too... not too much to ask that one freaking season not be psychotic is it?

Well, true to form I haven't been back to write since the first post... was really hoping this would give me a place to put down all those profound thoughts that wander in when Im out watching the sunset. Sadly many wander right back out before I ever come close to jotting them down. Now after dealing with a wicked stomach virus for the last few days Im about desperate for some diversion from all that fun. Too bad I can't muster up very much energy to go looking for it ... At least it was cooler out today and we had a nice batch of showers pass thru. Im watching the hummingbirds sparring with each other over feeder rights. I have 3 feeders out there but in the last hour I swear at one point there's been 5-6 of them out there doing their best imitation of the Harry Potter gang on their wild Quidditch brooms. One will be trying to eat and here comes another one zooming in a high speeds to buzz them and then others appear out of nowhere to join in. Funny thing is that I think they are all family. When the summer starts I only have one male and female but by mid summer there is always at least 2 of each but some have juvenile feathers. So my thought is that its the fledged youngsters that stick around where they were taught to eat even tho the parents have had enough of them... Now I know why I like these birds so much beside the just plain fun of watching them. We seem to have very similar families, even between the two parents. Im not quite as selfish, I don't mind sharing my feeder but find myself defending territory almost as much as Lady Hummer does. Think I may have to study her technique a bit more... she heads off in the fall footloose and fancy free which certainly has it allure. Then again me being who I am I can't imagine cutting those invisible threads of love that link me to my own squabbling family. Maybe a few more feeders next year with some distance between them will work ( for me and the hummers ).

Breaking my blogging cherry....
yeah sorry a lot of time Im just that vulgar ... despite having the most proper of English mothers, on most days my Jersey girl will shine thru. You just can't fight a lifetime of realism and crassness that comes from living in the Garden State... Can I just say that you'll pretty much at least know where you stand with me... Soooo despite the intriguing title Im gonna say that a good lot of my posts here are gonna probably be beyond boring.. the highlight of most of my days is getting to spend an hour on the back deck watching the sunset and sipping a bit of wine. On a good day I get out early enough to catch my hummingbirds before they go home for the night... on a bad night like tonight when I get out a bit too late for that but at least I get some great sky colors. I can usually tell its time to come in when my bat comes out... always makes me sad to see him/her flying alone since we use to have a whole colony and I loved watching their aerial acrobatics each nite. Note to self- look into getting a bat house set up. Tonight I lucked out in that I didn't even get one bug bite so even tho I missed the hummers it wasn't all bad. Lots of angry clouds when I first went out but no rain and actually a bit of entertainment watching them all move out, shifting and regrouping... Maybe I'll make it an early night so I can get up a bit early and get some deck time in the AM... fingers crosed <3
